While David Mason and family have been operating in our local area for over 20 years, the Mason family have been in the roofing industry for 5 generations. Below is the story of Percy Mason, who travelled to Africa in 1929 to carry out roofing work.
Percy Mason (1900 - 1974)In 1929 Percy Mason travelled to Africa's gold coast to carry out extension work to the Takoradi docks. Born in 1900, Percy was just 29 years old when he set sail. Percy's passport with his profession listed as 'Slater & Tiler', his boarding pass for the African Ocean Liner and a series of photographs tell the story of this remarkable journey. |

The team shown above show the men from Roberts & Adlards' sent to the Gold Coast on behalf of 'Robert Mc Alpine/Maclaren'. They carried out the expansion of Takoradi docks, which was being extended to compensate for the growing ivory trade. On his return to the UK Percy Mason mainly worked on roofs, which where being laid with pinion pantile and westmoreland slate. |

| During the second world war Percy was back laying asbestos sheeting and working on the many aerodromes and various army camps around the country. He then swiftly moved on to repairing the vast amount of bomb damage that was occurring during the blitz.
